Shadow had formed a bond resembling siblings with Maria, while Gerald was tirelessly working on a cure for her illness. However, peace wouldn’t endure forever.

Concerned by Gerald’s excessive measures for Project Shadow, the President decided to send GUN forces to the ARK. The soldiers raided the facility brutally, killing anything alive they encountered – unfortunately, Maria was caught in the crossfire and was killed by a stray bullet meant for Shadow. This tragic loss of his closest friend would significantly influence Shadow’s perspective on life and fill him with vengeance, even after being preserved in cryogenic suspension for half a century.

Currently, Dr. Eggman frees Shadow, prompting GUN to pursue him to re-capture him. Throughout the game, they serve primarily as an obstacle for Sonic, who inexplicably gets mistaken for Shadow and repeatedly detained by the organization. However, GUN recognizes their mistake when Sonic teams up with Shadow and together they transform into Super to thwart Eggman’s plan to destroy Earth as part of Gerald’s vengeful plot, thus preventing the ARK from striking our planet.

What Role Does GUN Play In Shadow The Hedgehog?

It was only a matter of time before Shadow the Hedgehog, whose fame among fans continued to grow, received his own standalone game. In 2005, this came to fruition with the release of a spinoff titled Shadow the Hedgehog. This game delved deeper into Shadow’s background, introducing elements such as GUN, Maria, and an enigmatic alien character named Black Doom, who was said to have played a role in his creation.

In the majority of the game, GUN is seen counteracting Black Doom and his alien troops who are storming in. As you progress through the levels, you’ll encounter GUN soldiers attempting to ward off the terrifying extraterrestrials. An integral part of the gameplay involves choosing which side you wish to support. If you’re feeling brave, you can attack the Black Arms. If you lean towards the darker side, you can eliminate the GUN forces instead.

In certain storylines, Commander Tower actively joins the conflict due to his personal grudge towards Shadow, as he holds Shadow responsible for Maria’s demise. It is later revealed that Tower shares a special bond with Maria, treating her like a sister, as they both grew up on the ARK. Your actions during the journey may lead you to engage in a series of boss battles against Tower.

In the genuine, ultimate conclusion of the game, Black Doom appears to be completing his domination of Earth; however, a message left by Gerald posthumously surfaces, revealing that the ARK’s Eclipse Cannon was meant to destroy the aliens’ comet. Shadow steps up and finishes the task – in response, Tower finally acknowledges Shadow’s heroism and chooses to put aside their differences and bury the hatchet.

What Is GUN’s Role In The Other Sonic Games?

After Shadow the Hedgehog, GUN and Commander Tower take a backseat in the storyline of the series, but are occasionally brought back for crucial battles against various dangers. In Sonic ’06, Shadow (now working with the agency) and Rouge the Bat are called upon by GUN to investigate the disturbance caused by Mephiles and Iblis, two time-twisting creatures, who were causing trouble in the coastal kingdom of Soleanna.

In Sonic Forces, it is Dr. Eggman who ultimately takes over the world. Among the first groups to challenge his plans are the faction known as GUN. However, they are quickly brought down by Infinite the Jackal, a newly hired mercenary within Eggman’s forces, who employs the Phantom Ruby – an object with reality-altering abilities – to disrupt their strategies significantly. With GUN out of commission, only a motley crew of resisters can potentially thwart Eggman’s regime.

In other games, GUN is briefly featured in Sonic Rush, the Sonic Riders spin-off series, and the non-canonical RPG Sonic Chronicles. GUN’s Role In The Sonic Movies

In the Sonic trilogy of movies, guns play a more significant role as each new film is released. In the first movie, Sonic 1, we are introduced to Commander Walters, who can be compared to Commander Tower in the films. Commander Walters works within the United States Department of Defense and attends a Pentagon meeting where Jim Carrey’s Eggman is given the task of locating the elusive blue creature, also known as the Blue Blur.

In Sonic 2, the character known as GUN was initially identified. As part of a plan to capture Sonic, whom they considered an ‘uncontrolled extraterrestrial’, they strategically orchestrated for one of their agents, Randall Handel (a fun rhyme!), to win over Rachel, the sister of Sonic’s adoptive human mother, Maddie.

During their wedding, this deception is unveiled as Sonic and Tails unexpectedly interrupt the ceremony. In this moment, Randall confesses that he genuinely fell for Rachel, leading to their reconciliation. At the same time, Commander Walters is persuaded of Eggman’s return and comes to believe that Sonic and his companions are on the side of righteousness. With this understanding, Commander Walters and GUN join forces with Sonic in the decisive battle against Eggman’s massive Death Egg Robot.

In the movies, Sonic 3 features prominently GUN’s character, Walters, as he shares with Sonic the tale of Shadow. This version of Shadow originated from a meteorite fall on Earth, where he was used for his vast energy resources.

Regardless of the games, Gerald and Maria’s storyline remains consistent. Certain occurrences are considered established facts!

In a clash with resurrected Eggman robots in Tokyo, Walters meets his end, but manages to hand over the keycard to the Eclipse Cannon to Team Sonic before he does. For the rest of the movie, GUN serves as another formidable adversary for our heroes, following Walters’ second-in-command, Rockwell, mistakenly believing that Sonic and his allies were responsible for Walters’ demise.

Regarding this matter, the film adaptation of GUN presents a moral quandary that surpasses its game counterpart. However, it’s still uncertain which allegiance they will choose when it comes to Sonic 4!
